As travelling is part of my life and I have visited more than 18 countries, Wales is closer to my heart. The reason behind it is my longer stay here, Welsh people, fun activities, its beaches, pubs, restaurants, and events. Besides this, it is a place that is full of life. There you can enjoy different and unique festivals and the local delights are worth trying.

During my stay here, I enjoyed staying in the comfy cottages, local delights at pubs and restaurants, events, kayaking, surfing, and paddle boarding. Because of the unpredictability of the weather, it is best to make a planned holiday checklist. You can discover a variety of enjoyable events and activities there throughout the year, particularly in June, July, and August. These season specific festivals are worth experiencing. Have you watched Gavin And Stacey? If you are a true fan of it, then Barry island must be familiar to you. Its popularity is because of the TV fame. Not only this but it is a family staple for Welsh people during summer. The thing that makes it worthy for kids is its amusement park. This amusement park is famous worldwide and it becomes a challenge to take kids out of it.

 Experience the Gavin and Stacey tour and explore the wonderland which is a fun place.
I enjoyed a lot at its large golden sandy beach and also experienced the fun activities like paddling and sandcaslting. I also visited its promenade, gardens, and cliff top walks.

2. Enjoy Puffin Spotting

Wales is also known because of its iconic puffin seeing spots. There are different locations like Smoker island and Anglesey. where you can see different plants, flora and fauna. The wildlife which you can see here include puffins, red squirrels, water deer, red kite, otters, and more.

I visited Smoker Island without any intention to see the puffins during summer between May and June. Apart from my expectations, I saw a lot of puffins and other seabirds too that enhanced my excitement. At that time my journey of puffin spotting started and I visited other areas like Llyn Peninsula, South Stack, and Puffin Island.

Are you also a fan of music and art? I love music and art in especial. When I visited Wales, I got to know from a Welsh about The Green Man Festival. It is an event that take place in August in Brecon Beacons. The music type that makes up this festival is electronic, alternative music, folk, and indie.

The music, poetry, bands, and expert talks are the mix of this festival. I enjoyed this festival a lot, and it is an event that promotes Welsh culture and arts. So, if you are traveling to Wales in summer, then this event is a must to experience. At the final ritual of the festival, The Green Man Effigy is set ablaze in the symbolic fire ceremony.

4. Try The Local Delights

Besides the events, attractions, and beaches in Wales, the thing I enjoyed most is its local delights. The local Welsh food is worth trying. I can’t guarantee that it will be according to your taste buds but I liked these Welsh food items the most. Some of the famous include:

Although I liked almost every local delight of Welsh but Laverbread and Welsh Rarebit are my favorite. I like the taste of hot cheese sauce in Welsh Rarebit. While the Laverbread is part of the Welsh cuisine and it is made from seaweed. The visitors like these local food items of Welsh and you can get them from their pubs and restaurants.

The Hay festival is worth enjoying and especially if you are going for a summer season. During this festival, many writers and readers come together and enjoy the time here. I enjoyed their way of celebrating literature, ideas, and the power of storytelling. Authors, artists, and activists attend this festival where the topics go beyond like climate change, politics, technology, and mental health.

At this literature and arts festival, I saw a number of thinkers, writers, and artists taking parts in workshops, music, and talks. I found out that it is one of the biggest literary events in the world when I visited this location. It will happen this year from May 22 to June 1st, 2025. Its additional activities include the festival bookshop.

6. Pembrokeshire Fish Week

The thing that I liked about Welsh people is how they enjoy even a small festival with enthusiasm. The Pembrokeshire fish week is one such family-friendly and vibrant festival. The rich heritage, coastal beauty, and maritime culture is celebrated at this event. Seafood delight, outdoor adventure, family fun, culinary experience, and some other activities are the highlights of this event.

This fish week was one of my favorite summertime activities in Wales. During this time, the local restaurants and pubs offer traditional seafood menus. Besides this, the Crocker demonstration, workshops, and masterclasses led by the chef’s are the most liked part of this fish festival. I also participated in fun activities like sea fishing trips and kayaking.

7. Beach Day At Tenby

Among the best activity in Wales during summer is the beach day at Tenby. It is a captivating place that has a lot of activities, historic beauty, and golden sand. After visiting this place the thing that I found out was that it has three main beaches including North, South, and Castle. I also got a chance to see its harbor area that has multiple colorful boats, fishing opportunities, and boat trips.

I enjoyed the coastal walk here that connected me to the nature and nearby attractions. The traditional Welsh hospitality is worth trying. The recreational activities and cultural experience that I got here is worth trying for the visitors.

8. Hike The Mount Snowden

Hiking Mount Snowdon was just a sudden plan that came to my mind while I was scrolling the phone. Although it was not in my list, But trying it was a different and adventurous experience. Summer is the best time to visit this tallest mountain in Wales. As for me, I also visited this mountain during the this season. You will find out there are four main trails that lead to the summit, some would be the busiest and some are less crowded.

Prepare for your best hike yet up the highest mountain at tops 1,085 meters high. The best months to hike this mountain trail are between April and September due to good weather conditions.

9. Trek On The Llyn Penisula

I visited this part of North Wales during my last few months stay there. A lot of passionate hikers were at this place and it is also recognized as an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The variety of trails, rich Welsh history, and coastline are worth experiencing. The trail lets you pass through the Welsh traditional villages, wildlife encounters, and the diverse landscape. For visitors there are some accommodations like B&Bs, Campsites, and Hotels. The best time to visit it is early autumn because the weather condition during that time is favorable.

10. Try Kayaking & Surfing

Visitors can engage in a variety of outdoor activities. These activities are a source to enjoy and let your worries stay away for some time. Water sports are something that is enjoyed a lot in Wales. Among these water sports, I enjoyed surfing and kayaking. Both of these are the activities that let me forget the worries. There you will find different spots for such water sports.

I enjoyed surfing at Rohsilli Bay Gower Peninsula and Kayaking at the Pembrokeshire Coast. After these outdoor activities, I enjoyed the Welsh food at their pubs and some famous restaurants. Then my final stay was at the best cottages of Wales.
